3 Tree trimming safety tips

1. Wear proper PPE
If you choose to trim trees yourself, step one is to wear the right protection. Protect your hands with a good pair of leather gloves. If working close to power lines, wear close-fitting, long sleeved clothing and a non-conductive hard hat. Tree trimming projects can expose your eyes to things such as dust, wood particles, insects, and pine needles, so be sure to wear sufficient eye protection. You'll also want good hearing protection when operating a trimmer or chainsaw. Wear shoes with soles that are not worn. Use chaps and gauntlets during chainsaw operations.  And if necessary don’t forget to wear fall protection!

2. Work with a partner
Having another person who stays on the ground while you’re climbing is always a good idea. In the event of an emergency, both you and your partner should have training in CPR and first aid. It is also smart to have your ground person help direct any large trimmed branches towards safe areas on the ground.

3. Inspect trees and limbs for cracks and weakness before you climb.
Never use dead, weak, or split branches for support. Break or trim weak branches before proceeding higher up the tree. Only move one step at a time and place your feet and hands on separate limbs as you climb. Always work with another person who stays on the ground while you're climbing. If you discover it is unsafe to continue to climb, it may be necessary to use an aerial lift.

Why does my tree need to be trimmed?

Emergency Tree Removal
Just like any other living thing, trees will respond to their environment. When a tree grows without any restrictions its “posture” will be affected. It will grow asymmetrically, potentially causing safety issues for your home or even your neighbor’s home. Not only does overgrowth look unattractive—it’s a liability!
Trimming & pruning your shrubs and trees will give your property a clean look that helps your plants grow healthier and stronger. If you want your tree to grow in a particular direction, expert tree trimming will allow us to dictate the way your tree grows. Our certified arborist can determine the best decisions for your trees and shrubbery, taking into account the specific species of your plants, their strengths and weaknesses, and the time of year.
